Introduction

In the campaign mode, the player assumes control of Kane, accompanied by Lynch and occasionally other hired mercenaries. Co-op mode is also available, where the second player takes charge of Lynch. While Lynch's gameplay style is almost identical to Kane's, Lynch experiences brief bursts of aggression during which he hallucinates that AI characters are police, some with animal-like heads. Lynch wields a shotgun and a revolver as sidearms, whereas Kane carries an assault rifle and standard pistol, though weapon swapping is possible. Additional arms like grenades, sniper rifles, and carbines can be collected and shared among allies. Taking cover next to walls and blindfiring are viable tactics. When employing hired mercenaries, the player can issue commands like follow, move to a specific position, or attack.

The game's online multiplayer mode, Fragile Alliance, features four maps: Hot Coffee, Late Night Opening, Withdrawal, and A Walk In The Park. An additional map pack, downloadable on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, includes four more maps. The objective is to complete multi-round matches with the most money. Each round starts with players as balaclava-clad robbers armed with money, which can be spent on superior firearms and armor. Opposition comes in the form of AI-controlled security guards and/or police officers. A player's money serves as a shield but drops when the player is injured. To exit the level, surviving players must reach a getaway vehicle. If players remain loyal to their allies, stolen money is divided equally among them.

Fragile Alliance

On the Xbox 360 and PC versions, a player's in-game appearance is determined by their TrueSkill rank. TrueSkill rank #1 and #2 correspond to Kane and Lynch, respectively. Unlike the campaign mode, sprinting is unavailable in multiplayer. If a player believes they've accumulated enough money to attract potential traitors, they can drop some money to reduce their scoring threat.

The game begins with ex-mercenary Adam 'Kane' Marcus (voiced by Brian Bloom) reading a letter addressed to his daughter Jenny as he's en route to death row due to a manslaughter conviction. Fellow death row inmate James Seth Lynch (voiced by Jarion Monroe) hints at an impending breakout. Mercenaries cause a head-on collision with their truck. Subsequently, they're taken to a construction site where they face four members of The 7, a criminal gang led by The Brothers, along with henchmen Carlos and Mute. The accusation is that Kane stole money from them, and they've taken his wife and daughter hostage. Kane has three weeks to retrieve the money, or his family will be killed.

After this meeting, they find themselves at an abandoned mall with supplies and a vehicle. Police intervention leads to a shootout, forcing Kane and Lynch to escape. Kane explains that he didn't steal from The 7 but knows the actual thief's identity and the money's location. They rob a local bank, obtaining only half the money from the safe. Lynch, grappling with mental illness and violent episodes, kills the hostages when his medication wears off. This forces Kane and Lynch to flee, with Kane's wife being executed by Mute despite promises of a meeting. Regaining consciousness, Lynch aids Kane in eliminating captors and protecting Jenny.

Kane decides to eliminate The 7 for his daughter's safety. He enlists the help of "Dead Men" from prison: Rific, Thapa, and Shelly. These men were wronged by The 7 and seek revenge. Their journey takes them to Havana, where they become embroiled in a civil war between the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces and The 7. They track down The Brothers and Carlos, recruiting Carlos and fighting through challenges. Ultimately, they confront The Brothers at their compound, leading to intense battles and confrontations. In the end, Kane must choose between rescuing his comrades or leaving with his daughter in a gripping conclusion
